My love of tabletop gaming really developed as a child, as I played games with my family. When we got together as a family, we played tabletop games, such as classics like Trivial Pursuit. I found joy in the idea that it was a safe space when we played games together at the table. Where we were all operating under the same rules, and even though we might have been competitive against each other, we had the same goals. I found that comforting in a world with so much going on and so much chaos. I certainly only realized or recognized that much later. But those moments were the most cherished with my family as a kid growing up.
In this day and age, sitting down for game time is a precious opportunity. One of the things we’re doing at Lefty Loosey Games is creating those broader experiences for people to share together. When everyone is face-to-face around the table, engaging with each other as a family or a group of friends through a game, that’s special. That’s quality. The reason is the connection that those games make between the player and their opponents. Without that, you have very little.
A great game will capture your imagination, thoughts, and extra time and make you want to improve. An excellent game puts you in a position where you have all the physiological responses of a decision or a thrilling moment with none of the consequences. That is an essential practice for real life. That experience can make us all better and connect us. A game lost is as big of an opportunity to look at yourself, be introspective, and consider your choices as a game won is to celebrate. Winning is not the experience; It may validate a game well played, but the experience is what I cherish, not the victory. There’s something about practicing for life without the pressure of life that, as an adult, is fun.
That’s our goal. To make gaming fun for everyone. So, we create games that prioritize the exhilaration of game interaction and the joy of learning something new with each game.
